Ben Davis concentrates on fusing his classical, jazz and contemporary music experiences into a raw vehicle of acoustic expression. He studied cello and composition at the Guildhall, London and started to improvise while playing for the dance company Earthfall Dance, UK. His own group Basquiat Strings collaborated with Ellery Eskerlin in the BBC Electric Proms and was nominated for the Mercury Music Awards 2007. While being a member of the London-based collective "FIRE", he collaborated individually with many of its artists and groups. Following gigs with Evan Parker, Louis Moholo, Vincent Courtois and Wadada Leo Smith, he developed a freer approach to improv subsequently playing and recording extensively with Ingrid Laubrock, Simon Nabatov and Chris Brown. More recently he has been playing with Tomeka Reid, Mary Halverson, Ben Goldberg Marshall Trammell, Zeena Parkins, William Winant and performing at the Mills College festival “Music from the Fault Zone" with Roscoe Mitchell and Nichole Mitchell. He will be collaborating with Raven Chacon on American Ledger No.1 and his solo cello work "Quiver".
